A large part of the enjoyment is had from having a beautiful, good sounding, properly set-up instrument. Laurinel Owen is dedicated to finding that violin, viola, cello or bow for you.
Ms Laurinel Owen is the Principal of the House of Strings, her abilities and experience are diverse and of a very high level. She was a member of the Filarmónica de las Americas in Mexico City, Solo-Cellist of the Scottish Baroque Ensemble in Edinburgh and Principal Cellist of the National Symphony Orchestra of South Africa in Johannesburg. As soloist and chamber musician, she has toured the Southern African Continent and South America and has recorded for the Dutch Radio, the South African Broadcasting Corp., Radio France, Cablevision TV, TCI Cable TV and German Television. She has performed at the Berlin Wall with Mstislav Rostropovich, was a clinician at the World Cello Congress III, and in 2001 was elected a National Honorary Member of Sigma Alpha Iota, America's most prestigious music fraternity. Ms. Owen has played with the Long Island Philharmonic representing the orchestra in their Education Program in the public schools and has been presented in recitals by the Nassau County Office of Cultural Development, The Friends' of the Arts, Hofstra University, Suffolk Community College, Long Island University, Adelphi University, Dowling College, the Port Jefferson, Islip and Freeport Art Councils and public libraries and art museums throughout Long Island. She has been featured in “Newsday” and “Good Living Magazine.”
Ms Owen has been an Artistic Consultant for the D’Addario String Co. and the Tomastik String Co. in Vienna, an organizer for the Kronberg Academy in Germany, an instructor at the Oxford Cello School in England and a judge for the Violin Society of America. She has published over 125 papers and a biography of Bernard Greenhouse. She is working on a book for Oxford University Press and a series of 10 DVDs about famous cellists with the Kronberg Academy. Ms Owen is Executive Director of South Country Concerts.
