Still working today in Erlangen, instruments from the Roth workshop are known for consistent quality. Legendary Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler, whose daughter learned on it, formerly owned this cello. A copy of a 1724 Strad the cello is in good condition with narrow grain spruce top widening towards the flanks and reddish brown shading. Its tone is open, engaging and sympathetic.
